The Calexit movement has been inspired by LA Times reporting on the idea of Calexit — since before the movement was well known, from 2004 through 2016. SEE below

Clearly the LA Times is still interested in the idea of California being a nation — given this article offered these two quotes: “The state also has pushed back against administration initiatives taking aim at California’s national leadership” & “if it were a country, it would have the fifth-biggest economy in the world”.
